Our Volunteers have been very busy over the last few months. Work is progressing on the second volume of the Croley Funeral Home Records. We have the following people to thank for that: Pam Reynolds, Donna Rains, Roy and Mary Alice Siler and Brenda Meadors.

The webmaster of our site is continuing to work hard to keep everything updated and several people have volunteered to do research for all the queries that have arrived. I’ve been advised by our webmaster that we’ve had 281 emails come into the site. The following people are working with her to research these emails: Roy and Mary Alice Siler, Donna Rains, Justeen Wilson, Patricia Jones and Brenda Meadors. Each email is answered as soon as possible. I hope you will check the site because our future planned activities will appear on the calendar

We wish to thank many of you who have been sending photos and material for our research library and museum. A large collection of military photos and materials have arrived from Robert Sumners who lives in Texas. He wished to donate these materials since his mother was from Whitley County. She was a member of the Cornelius family.

We have several important events coming up including OLD FASHION TRADING DAYS which will be held on Main Street in Williamsburg. The festivities will take place September 4-6. We hope you will drop by our booth to visit or check out our displays of photos and materials. For those of you who have been waiting to purchase a Croley Funeral Home Book, you might want to drop by our booth. We have a special sale on the few that were damaged when our water pipes burst. The damage is very slight. No ink is smeared but a page may be wrinkled so we could not sell them at their original price. We’re sorry that this special sale will only be for those people who can drop by to pick one up. At the reduced rate, we cannot mail these items.

Our Annual HERITAGE DAY CELEBRATION will take place at the depot on October 11, 2008. We hope you can drop by and tour the museum, visit and check out the demonstrations local citizens will be sharing. We have a wonderful time each year so please try to set aside a few hours on that day to drop by and chat.

The grant monies have been completely spent over the past few months. We purchased the following items: laptop computer, office computer, copiers, printer, digital camera, book binding machine, office materials which include a fireproof filing cabinet and a security system. The entire depot now as security cameras instead of just the office and research room. We’ve tried to ensure that we used the monies wisely.

I encourage you to continue to share your family records with us as well as books that you have written or compiled. We also just received a new book that was published by The Corbin Times. It is the book which show military photos from the Tri-County Area. If you haven’t dropped by our research facility, I encourage you to do so. Roy and Mary Alice Siler are there each Wednesday to assist you. Brenda Meadors and other have the depot open the first and last Saturday of the month, so drop by and see if we have any records that you can use in your research.
